How To Backup Your Windows 7 Registry

If you ever want to do some changes to Windows or do some cleaning, chances are you might find yourself in the Windows registry.  It's basically a big confusing bunch of shit you really don't need to worry about, but it's extremely powerful and is the brains upon which Windows operates...basically.

Anyway, in any of the tips you read here or anywhere else ask you to make some registry changes, back it up first.
It's perfectly fine to change registry entries, you just need to be careful because any changes made to it are permanent in nature.
So here's how you back it up:

Press and hold the Windows key...and press 'R'.  In the 'Run' dialog box that opens type 'regedit'. Your registry will open.  Click 'File' > Export.

Save it somewhere and then make your changes.
